Compliance Tools

COMcheck and REScheck software applications may be used to assist builders, designers, and contractors in demonstrating energy code compliance, and create compliance reports for code officials based on project inputs.

COMcheck

The COMcheck™ software product group makes it easy for architects, builders, designers, and contractors to determine whether new commercial or high-rise residential buildings, additions, and alterations meet the requirements of the IECC and ASHRAE Standard 90.1, as well as several state-specific codes.  COMcheck™ Desktop simplifies commercial building energy code compliance by offering a flexible compliance computer-based alternative to manual calculations. COMcheck-WEB is the web-based version of the COMcheck desktop software. It performs just like the desktop version but requires no download or installation.

REScheck

The REScheck™ product group makes it fast and easy for builders, designers, and contractors to determine whether new homes, additions, and alterations meet the requirements of the IECC or a number of state energy codes.  REScheck™ Desktop simplifies residential building energy code compliance by automating the trade-off calculations for this approach. REScheck-WEB is the web-based version of the REScheck desktop software. It performs just like the desktop version but requires no download or installation.

ASHRAE Standard 90.1 Performance Based Compliance (Section 11 and Appendix G)

Commercial building energy codes such as ASHRAE Standard 90.1 typically include two types of approaches for demonstrating compliance; prescriptive and performance paths. Compliance forms are available to meet the documentation requirements of Standards 90.1-2016 and 2019 Section 11 Energy Cost Budget Method and Appendix G Performance Rating Method.

Updates to REScheck and COMcheck Building Energy Code Compliance Software

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is directed to provide technical assistance to states to support the implementation of model residential and commercial building energy codes (42 USC 6833). As part of this assistance, the DOE Building Energy Codes Program provides ongoing support for REScheck and COMcheck compliance software, which are updated based on new editions of the model codes. DOE has published guidance surrounding its support for the software, including technical assistance requests for modified versions.
