Security and Privacy Policy

The security of your account information is very important to the Department of Energy. As such, we have designed this web application with secure access. Upon registration, you can establish your own account name and password. The entered building information and the asset score report for your building will not be disclosed to anyone in original form without your express permission. All building data and messages communicated over the web are secured by Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption to protect data transmissions. No information is transferred openly over the web.

Notice of Use

This site utilizes "session" cookie technology. "Session" cookies are used to distinguish one user from another as they navigate through a tool or application; the cookie disappears when a web user terminates a web session and closes the browser. They are not used to save personal information.

The information collected may be de-identified and all personal identifiable information (PII) removed, and then be used for the purpose of internal reporting, research and development, publications and presentations or statistical analysis to improve the effectiveness of the Department of Energy's building tools and energy efficiency programs.

This data may also be extracted and used in other databases and tools for research, development, publication, and presentation purposes. The data will be treated as confidential and will be anonymized before being used for any future research and development purpose. In all cases, the data will be used anonymously. Such information is never sold to third parties.

General Information Disclaimer

The accuracy of the HVAC System Performance tool is dependent on the accuracy of the entered data. The HVAC System Performance is intended to provide a mechanism to evaluate HVAC systems and compare their performance against a reference or baseline HVAC system. It can be used for demonstrating compliance with energy codes and standards. The HVAC System Performance tool is not intended to replace your engineering evaluation regarding costs and savings.

The HVAC System Performance Tool utilizes a whole building simulation engine to model energy consumption and water use in buildings. This engine receives periodic updates. Similarly, the HVAC System Performance Tool also receives periodic updates to incorporate bug fixes and simulation improvements. Consequently, results obtained from the HVAC System Performance Tool are subject to change over time. You are responsible for any final decisions made by you when using the HVAC System Performance tool and neither the U.S. Department of Energy nor PNNL shall be liable for any resulting compliance or financial consequences due to your use of the HVAC System Performance Tool and updates to the HVAC System Performance Tool.

Except for authorized law enforcement investigations, no other attempts are made to identify individual users or their usage habits. Raw data logs are used for no other purposes and are scheduled for regular destruction in accordance with National Archives and Records Administration guidelines.

Your rights as an individual user of this web page are governed by the Privacy Act of 1974; Title 5, Section 552a .

The Department of Energy may update the User Agreement from time to time. A notice will be posted on the HVAC System Performance Tool website along with the updated User Agreement.
